How many gyms do we want, what types should they be. Should the maker of the map be able to decide where which gym is?

I think the gym should be related to the setting. I find where they put a lot of the gyms is really random. for example, Ramos' Grass Type gym in XY is in a port town, where people would probably anticipate a Water type gym.

This is done across all of the games. Such as Lt. Surge in gen 1/3 and Falkner in gen 4. (electric gyms in port cities)

I think we should just have 8 gyms. Notice that most of my ideas will not be based on any in-game feature, but it could be something that the creator of the map could take care of. That said I think these would be cool:
1: Fighting-type. Decently exclusive type, but still one of the types that can feature some early-game Pokemon. Additionally all starters are fair against it, so no bias and early birds will be a help. 2: Electric-type. Another type which usually has a few available Pokemon at the start of the game. Water types have a slight disadvantage and Grass types a slight advantage, but at this point you should be able to cope with that. Would be a nice way to introduce a power plant or something like that. (Even though landmarks may not even be added yet). Also a special type as opposed to Fighting. 3: Normal-type. A pretty common type which could be in a big city or something. Pretty general. 4. Poison-type. Could either be in a big city or near a swamp. Bangladesh? 5. Steel-type. This could be higher up in a mountain and have us make a large travel to reach it, which also gives enough space for a plot in between, something which usually starts to get big around this point. 6. Dark-type. General type that could be wherever, could also be related to the villainous team if needed. 7. Water-type. We got enough Water and this could be anywhere near Water. Good late game type since a lot of variation and late-game usually has a lot of water transport. 8. Ground-type. Final type and could be in a lot of places: Underground, on highlands or in a desert. Either way it makes sense to be hard to travel to.
Any opinions? I think these would cover everything pretty well.

Those seem good. I'd pick a desert for the last gym, as I think it fits well with the region and what its based on. Also the 3rd gym reminds me very much of Goldenrod City.

I agree with some of that, and disagree with other parts of that. -I feel the Ground gym shouldn't be the 8th gym, but it should be in the late-game. The Thar Desert just doesn't feel like something you would visit right before the end. -A Rock/Ice/Flying type gym to represent the Himalayas would be cool -A Normal Type gym in a country with a rich culture just doesn't feel right.

An Ice type gym in the Himilayas would be good. Maybe fit that in there and have the Poison type gym in the big city instead? I reckon we don't need to have a gym in a swamp area, the area doesn't seem fitting for a gym to me.

Should abuse like Ice Skates and such and the other boosts Icetype will get. 7. Water-type. We got enough Water and this could be anywhere near Water. Good late game type since a lot of variation and late-game usually has a lot of water transport. 8. Ground-type. Final type and could be in a lot of places: Underground, on highlands or in a desert. I propose trying to fit a physic gym in somewhere to tie into the Hindu/Buddhist culture of the region we are basing this off of, with alakazam probably being the main Pokemon of this gym leader (unless we make alakazam the gym leader o.O) Also, instead of being cliche which the ice gym on everest, why don't we tie in a dragon gym (might want to make it gym 7/8 if so). However, this does pose an issue as you are surrounding the gym by a weakness.

Someones badges for their fake-region. These look pretty cool. SNAQ EDIT: While these are a nice example, we're not going to use them and please don't discuss it. We don't want to involve in plagiarism.

I wanted to bring this back up but how about each gym as well as being monotype representing an Other Meta and having the guide battle you just to help the user understand the way the battle works. I think this would be really cool as it brings some popularities to the metas and makes the game have a more enjoyable experience. The other metas have to be do able as some like AAA,and inherentence might be abit to hard to program and very confusing. Here is a list of metas that might be doable. Triples Doubles 1v1 2v2 inverse Tier shift

I dislike having random OMs ingame besides being a battle option somewhere special, (like Inverse). The game is how it is, and especially Tier Shift wouldn't make sense with how different things function in-game. Doubles and Triples are fine to do though, since they're just battle modes.

I like Snaq's suggestion, except for 2 things: -I feel that we should change Steel to either Rock or Flying, to go with the Himalayas. Then, this gym should be before the Ice gym, to stay in the general area. -Also, I think the Dark Gym should be last, Ground Gym 6th and Water Gym 7th. After traveling to the Himalayas, you go towards the NW, into the Thar Desert. Then, you go to the southern tip, near the ocean. Finally, you reach the plot climax, and the gym is a base for the evil team. Gyms have been involved in the story before, but never at the climax (Silph Co. was the climax, not Viridian City).

If we are going to have the ice gym on "everest/himalayas" i suggest we put it as the 8th gym to symbolize the mountain of challenges you have has to face to get to that point. This would also work as an elite four location, with the climb up the mountain being victory road.

herndonchad My idea for the Ground gym is to put it in the Thar Desert, in the Northeastern part of India. Its not something you would visit at the end of the game imo.

Touche, however, Unova was like a smaller version of the U.S.A. The deserts were supposed to be like the deserts out west. (Arizona, New Mexico, etc.) Egypt is a liiiittle too far away from India to make this jump, imo.
