Dark type gym, imo. It's been far too long, Gamefreak. Have the leader's name be Dwayne or something

I think the gym should have puzzles again. Ones that will take 20 minutes to complete. I miss those

Random thought: what if each gym specialized in two types instead of just one? That could be an interesting changeup to the formula. The obvious downside to this is that there would necessarily be some type overlap once you reached the elite four, though whether or not that really matters is up for debate, I suppose.

I think instead of themeing the gyms and the E4 around types, we should have 2 types to each gym (Only leaving 2 for some unofficial gym like the Fighting Dojo). Then, we can have the E4 use a)Balanced Teams b)Weather Teams c)Competitive Archetypes (Like Trick Room, Stall, HO, etc.) or d) Different Battle Formats (Singles, Doubles, etc.).

Gyms in orders they haven't been in before please! I.e. Rock isn't 1st because it was 1st in Kanto, Hoenn and Sinnoh!
I like the idea of having 10-12 gyms where the game splits off after the sixth gym and you can pick which path to go on, determining the rest of the gyms you face.
Speaking of which, we should totally have decisions that effect the storyline; e.g. you let the villanous team run away in order to help your friend who's being kidnapped

I like this idea a lot. It could make for great gym designs. I already have ideas for Fairy/Grass and Ghost/Grass [both being forests]. And Fire/Ground would be cool, as it could look like the lava pit in which you find Groudon [Ruby], and a Water/Fairy or Water/Psychic that looks like the Cave of Origin [From Alpha Sapphire].

@cattail Prophet, that is a super cool idea. I've played some romhacks with multitype gyms and they were really fun. Depending on the size of our map, or if we have multiple versions of our game, having an open gym format would be cool. Not being constrained to do the gyms in order would be super cool. Multiple Pokemon Leagues might also help with giving more of us options to build characters who could have a pivotal role in the story (like the gym leaders in BW2). And you know how the Pokemon League is always portrayed as a tournament playstyle thing in the anime? Why shouldn't that be a thing too! The Elite Four could be a completely different thing imo. Just some ideas ñ.ñ

I totally agree with you, Saverdien, but I think the name Darius should be considered.

Aphoria for Dark-type Gym Leader~! It'd be the opposite of euphoria of course and she could be masochistic if you really wanted her to be ._.

If we are to do dual-typed gyms, an idea that I am intrigued by, what would the second type of the Dark gym be. A lot of you seem to want a Dark gym (why else would you already be nominating leader names?) so where would it be? Would the interior of the gym reflect the town/city? Will there be a "signature Pokemon" (ace) and will it be both of the types? Food for thought, I really want this to take off.
Edit: I personally think Dark/Poison or Dark/Steel would be cool for a run-down big city, and Drapion or Bisharp could be those aces. It would also be cool if the gym was converted from an old bar or club to reflect the twisted nature of the city.

biaf, those combinations seem pretty good! I think it really depends on the city/town, the character, and perhaps the stage of the game! New Idea!! What if instead of the standard gym get a badge thing, we do something like the anime in the Orange Islands? There could be a specific challenge tied in with some battles to make the experience less monotonous or tedious. Additionally, I think when we do get to the design phase of the gyms, they should be outside, super large, in weird locations, etc as opposed to the rectangle with stuff inside we're all used to.

How about a bug-type gym full of spider webs, which automatically has sticky web set up on your side at the start of every battle? Would probably be an early game gym because of the typically low BST of bug type pokémon, so potentially ariados as the leader's main pokémon
Similar idea for rock type gym in a cave with stealth rock set up during every battle

Sticky Web is pretty good & Stealth Rock is amazing. Bugs aren't all that weak Maybe we could have gyms that specialize in battle strategies? Like Hyper Offense, Weather, TR, etc.

hurrycane, Competitive Monotype Gym Leader teams would also be cool. Since most of use are into competitive play it would be really cool.

By competitive, do you mean have all EV's invested and all that fun stuff? (Speaking of EV's, I think there should be an easier way to EV train imo)

Saverdien, maybe have what is appropriate for that stage of the game. Like 1st gym leader has 25% EVs, 2nd has 50%, etc. so by 5th gym you could have an actual competitive set. EV training idk. ill make a thread.

I think we should have semi-competitive stuff. We shouldn't make gym leaders have terrible moves, but it shouldn't be a "competitive" team either.

I like the idea of having 5 / 6 pokemon in the pokemon gyms from the start. In the usual games the gyms start with 2 or 3 pokemon which are all very easy to beat. Starting gym 1 with 6 pokemon with no items, no EVs and a meh moveset and improving this every gym so gym 6 for example has full EVs, leftovers / resist berries / gems as items and good coverage moves sounds like a nice idea. Like snaq said it shouldn't be a very competitive team that is only defeatable with overleveled pokemon, but stuff like Sticky Web or Trick Room could be nice to add.

Perhaps competitive sets without competitive EVs?

I am opposed to 5-6 mons at the start of the game. Yes it should build up to more Pokemon, but 6 Pokemon is pretty insane at the start of the game, when it's hard to have 3 Pokemon of a decent level. It should be like 2, 3, 3, 4, 4, 5, 5, 6, then all elite four and champion 6.

I'm actually in favour of harder gyms and gameplay in general. I would actually like to lose in a Pokémon game for once! But of course, more Pokémon =/= harder
