Approximately how many towns do we want. (like a range of five would be good).
Some stuff. A town for each gym probably, a starting town, a few normal ones, elite four, postgame, professor, etc. Enough to think about.

1 Starting Town 8 Gyms 1 E4 That is 10 we have already. If we want a multiple of 5, 15 is the most reasonable number.

Will town names be anagrams of PS! room names? If so, I got some ideas for possible town names.

The average number of towns across all 6 games is 14. However, since the first two game only had 10 cities (not including the pokemon league) with the trend being around 16 plus a pokemon league as of more recently.

I'll just do an addition of stuff I want. I do not think averaging should be what we do necessarily, as I think most people want a rather broad storyline.
1 Starting Town 1 Professor Town (I think this would be good, even if it's a bigger city) 8 Gym Towns 1 Pokemon League 5 Pre-game flavor towns 3 Post-game flavor towns 1 Post-game competitive town
= 20

All this was was a suggestion for a more average game size. I understand the want to make a game large enough to incorporate a large number of references, but personally I feel anything larger then our "sample size" is kind of unnecessary.

Okay, thanks for replying. Personally I feel that while we should generally have a normal size, I also feel that a few small towns would be good just to pass by, and a few to have some plot in. I understand why you'd want to limit this, but I think this would give some room to the plot between gyms, rather than travelling from city to city. Additionally, I want some good post-game side quests so people can enjoy themselves.

Keep in mind that this is a hack. ROM Hacks allow for a larger game size. I've seen GBA ROM hacks that have fit 3 regions into one game. This is why I feel that 20 is sufficient, but even more is still okay.

20 is a well round number for towns. I agree with putting the professors lab in the big city, kills two birds with one stone. A town before the league would be nice, imo. Similar to Ever Grande City but way more expanded on.

One-Day Left Reminder. Post your thoughts if you want them to be heard, otherwise I'll set the guidelines.

2 Starting Towns (One for the Male and other for the Female, Professor would greet you and your rival at your doorstep) 9 Gym Cities (1 Extra) 1 Pokemon League 3 Pre-game flavor towns (Deserted Town near Taj Mahal. Polluted town. A town near the Mountains) 2 Post-game flavor towns (My Ideas: Ranch, Town Near A Desert) 1 Post-game competitive town 3-4 Landmarks (A big Desert, Taj Mahal, Mountain)
Reasoning: 2 Towns could be unique and both of them could have a lab. However, the Professor greets you (and your rival?) at your doorstep and gives you your starter. 9 Gym Cities (One could be closed and it could radiate a unique and mystique aura; could be near Taj Mahal and Mountains) Flavor towns due to India's conditions. I also added Landmarks if needed. Edited from @herdonchad's post

1 Starting town 7 Gym towns ( 1 gym being in a cave/tower top of a mountain in the deepness of a forest, seclusion seems really original and hard 2 reach) 1 League 3 Pre-game Flavor town ( 1 for contests stuff like pokethon and minigames) 5 Post game flavor towns ( because the more the merrier and it's always nice having smthg 2 do/somewhere 2 go) 1 Post game comptitive town the Landmarks are a nice idea as Ruby suggested I think we should just have 1 town because we all like that classic little place with 3-4 house where it all began The secluded gym(s) will prove a challenge to reach, instead of just stoping by it in everytown. I think we should have 1 secluded island city only accessible my an item (like in Platinum/Sinnoh when you got Cresselia and Darkrai).
