Well, most of you will have seen this in the mechanics thread, but I'm not making a separate thread for it. Basically for those of you who haven't been paying attention, the idea was to buff Ice a bit defensively. I got the ideas to give it a Fairy resistance, and possibly a Water resistance. Both of these types are quite powerful right now, and would balance the type chart a bit. Additionally, Fairy types seem to dislike temperature changes, in addition to Ice "reflecting" them. Water and Ice make sense for a mutual resistance, since they're both the same element. The Ice can freeze the water, however the water can just absorb the Ice. It seems to make sense.
As always, feel free to propose other ideas. However, the general idea of this thread should be discussing the viability of Ice-types and how to make them more balanced, by making small changes.

This would really make sense! [and i'm not just saying this cuz i wanna boost the type]. Since you stated that fairies don't like temperature change, shouldn't that mean that when it gets hit it's super effective?

Since you stated that fairies don't like temperature change, shouldn't that mean that when it gets hit it's super effective? Well, this is not something official honestly. Someone in the previous thread suggested it, since they are also not very effective against Fire. Maybe their attacks have an optimal temperature? Or themselves. Either way they don't have to be hit super effectively, and honestly Ice doesn't need to hit more, or it might actually become too good with a few resistances. A fun thing is that Ice would have no types it both resists and hits SE, but I think these are the best two types.

Better defensive buff to ice-types is what I just posted into the mechanics thread imo: +50% Def buff under Hail. I think that if this gets approved, or mine, the other would make ice way too OP. However, just looking at your suggestion, it would make sense competitively for sure, and the favor works for it. I like it

Not too sure if both a 50% buff in hail and gaining a resistance or two would necessarily make it OP. Even with a resistance to fairy, the fairy type itself is not too common (for now at least), and doesnt really make up for all the weaknesses it has too much.
And then in terms of hail, I don't really see why GF didn't give the 50% defense buff in the first place. Rock and Ice type are pretty similar, both having many weaknesses, so idk why they would just have sandstorm that buffs when sandstorm and hail are so similar.
Maybe back in permaweather a 50% defense buff might have mafe certain things a lot more viable like stally ice body glaceon, but even then I dont feel it would make things OP. Arguably the pokemon that would get most benefit are abomasnow and aurorus, with the defense boost almost being permanent, but then these two pokemon have like the two worst type combinations ever so they kind of need it. Maybe it would make megaboma a bit OP, but then ttar and mega ttar exist so there isnt really much of an issue.
Long story short I'm in support of both a hail defense buff and a resistance to fairy. A bit undecided on the water resistance tho.

I'll say, immunity to Frozen Stalagmites and Ice-Types have immunity to Frozen Stalagmites and on switch in, Frozen Stalagmites get vanished if an Ice-type switches in. Might make F Stalags more balanced to be approved though

It doesn't fix anything about their terrible type. It only allows them not to take hazard damage from that which is only one problem they have, and they still get damage from SR! Also didn't even realize that it was accepted, I wouldn't have accepted it.
All it'd do is (if FStalagmites are absolutely overcentralizing) is making teams add a random Ice type even if they don't fit making the metagame even more unbalanced.

It could also be given a grass or flying resist but I like the changes you thought of.

Give it resistance to only Ice, Fairy and Dragon, imo. I'm not usually a fan of changing mechanics but the Ice type is terrible.

well we could always add abilities like the sandstorm abilities for Ice types instead.
Snow Force: Boost Attack Under Hail Snow Gaurd: Boost Def Under Hail Snow Gale: Boost Speed Under Hail
Or Add Pokemon With Abilities To Benefit From Hail That Arent Ice Types
Weather Dome: This Pokemons Def & Sp.Def Are 1.33x Under Any Weather Conditions. Is Not Affected By Weather.

SirMinun someone made an item that boosts speed in hail by 2x the speed, so yeah, it happened.

I believe that Ice should resist itself, Fairy and Bug. The reason why I want a Bug resist is because insects are weakened and slowed down in the cold. That's why ants are not found on Antarctica!
And I also believe that Ice-Types should be immune to freezing and I also support the 50% Def buff in Hail. These changes should make the Ice-Type a decent type.
However, I am against the Water resist due to scientific reasons. It takes nearly twice as much energy to hear water than it would ice, which explains why ice cubes keep melting in our drinks.

We already decided what we were doing with the Ice-type.
