Classic Roles
MAFIA:
The role that the game is named after. The mafia's goal is to get everyone killed or lynched except him and his partners, if he has any. He can kill one person in the night phase. If he has partners, they have to collectively choose only ONE target per night.
Note: Mafia should say which one of them is performing the kill; if the Mafia that's performing the kill is killed by the WW or gets distracted by the PL, then the mafia can't perform the kill. If no specific mafia member is named for doing the kill, then the host will assume that it's the first one to PM.
WEREWOLF:
This is a role most commonly seen in slightly larger games. He is just like a mafia and can kill a person at night; however, he cannot be distracted by the Pretty Lady (see below) and will kill her instead. He acts before the Mafia, so if he targets a Mafia, the Mafia dies before the Mafia’s target dies. He is sided with himself. Commonly abbreviated as WW.
Note: Should The Werewolf be blocked by the PL, but chose a different target, only the PL is killed by the WW.
INSPECTOR/COP:
He chooses a person at night to “inspect”. He will then get that person’s role. He is one of the most useful roles sided on the Town side.
Note: In the event that no Werewolves are in the game, the cop receives his inspection as either Mafia or Not Mafia instead of the exact roles.
BODYGUARD/DOCTOR:
He chooses a person at night to “protect”. If anyone tries to kill the person he chose, the kill command will fail. The doctor CANNOT protect himself. Also a very important role, sided with Town. Commonly called Doc.
Note: Should the Doctor protect a PL who targets a Werewolf, the PL does not die.
PRETTY LADY/HOOKER:
She chooses a person, and if that person has an action at night- such as Inspecting, protecting, or killing- they will not work that night. Her command has no effect on villagers, and if she distracts the Werewolf she gets ravishly devoured and dies. Sided with the Town. In bigger games there CAN be a Mafia-sided Hooker. Commonly abbreviated as PL.
JAILKEEPER:
This role's target at night gets both roleblocked and protected. So this is basically a role that functions both as a PL and a Doc. Commonly abbreviated as JK.
VILLAGER:
The role that is the most populous in any Mafia game. A villager has no commands in the night phase, but can vote someone out during the day. Since there are so many of them, numbers CAN be power. Usually sided with Town, but there are Mafia-sided villagers in bigger games only. Commonly abbreviated as Villy.
MAYOR:
Like a villager, but his vote counts as 2. That’s pretty much the only difference, to be honest. Sided with Town.
